Scholarship and fellowship support can help you achieve your greatest potential at UConn. Below you’ll find information about need-based and merit-based undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships administered through the College and its departments, as well as financial aid available to CLAS students.

College Scholarships and Fellowships

The CLAS Office of the Dean offers scholarships and fellowships annually that consider merit and financial need. These opportunities are open to all eligible students across the College. Undergraduate and graduate students can apply for most of these opportunities by completing a standard electronic application. Please see the full list of scholarships and fellowships for exceptions.

The application for the 2024-2025 academic year is now open. To apply for a scholarship or fellowship, please complete the electronic standard application. The application will close at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024.

Undergraduate Students

Available to students pursuing an undergraduate degree in CLAS. Please apply here.

The Agnes B. Harrison Scholarship is awarded to CLAS undergraduates majoring in one of the social sciences. Students must demonstrate academic achievement and financial need. Preference will be given to those who are first-generation college students. This award may be renewable.

The Albert E. and Wilda E. Van Dusen Award for Undergraduate Study and Travel in the Fields of Ancient Greco-Roman History and Classical Languages is for continuing undergraduate CLAS students who demonstrate academic excellence. The student must also engage in, for academic credit or as part of an existing or newly created University approved program, one of the following: study or research involving ancient Greek and/or Latin languages and requiring travel beyond the University of Connecticut’s campus, or study or research involving ancient Greek and/or Roman history or civilization requiring travel, preferably, but not exclusively, to any of the lands that made up the ancient classical world before A.D. 600.

The Anthony Wallace Memorial Scholarship is for rising juniors in CLAS who have a minimum 3.0 GPA, excellent past academic achievement, and financial need. Applicants must be residents of the State of Connecticut. This award may be renewable.

The Anthony P. Zemetis and Helen Noonan Zemetis Scholarship is for CLAS undergraduates who demonstrate financial need. This award may be renewable.

The Arthur O. Bayer College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Scholarship is for entering first-year students. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and academic achievement. Preference will be given to residents of the State of Connecticut. This award may be renewable for a maximum of four years.

The Arwood S. and Mary Northby Scholarship is for entering first-year students majoring in math and juniors/seniors majoring in one of the physical sciences. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and academic achievement.

The Barbara and John G. Hill, Jr. Scholarship Fund supports full-time CLAS undergraduates who demonstrate both academic achievement and financial need. This award may be renewable.

The Betty ’50 and Bish ’50 Bishop Scholarship is for CLAS undergraduate students who have a minimum 2.8 GPA and are residents of the State of Connecticut. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and excellent academic achievement. This award may be renewable for a maximum of four years.

The Bryan K. and Alice M. Pollard Scholarship is for CLAS undergraduate students majoring in Political science or in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) discipline and who demonstrate financial need . Applicants must have overcome obstacles such as socioeconomic or educational disadvantage, be members of underrepresented groups at the University, including students of color, or have experience living or working in diverse environments.

The Christine N. Witzel Women’s Health Scholarship Fund is for CLAS undergraduate students with a demonstrated interest in issues related to women's health. Applicants must be majoring in a social science, including but not limited, students with majors in Sociology, Psychological Sciences; Human Development and Family Studies, Anthropology, and Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies. Applicants must be Connecticut residents and demonstrate financial need. This award may be renewable .

The CLAS Undergraduate Scholarship is for CLAS undergraduate students who demonstrate academic achievement and/or financial need.

The Crystal Molina Memorial Scholarship is for continuing CLAS undergraduates who have an interest in and/or participate in social justice, environmental, or advocacy outreach programs assisting disadvantaged populations, including migrant workers. Candidates must demonstrate financial need, and preference will be given to students who have overcome socioeconomic or educational obstacles, are first generation college students, are members of underrepresented groups at UConn, or have experience living/working in diverse environments. This award may be renewable.

The Deborah Lynn McIntosh Memorial Scholarship in Biology is for continuing CLAS undergraduates majoring in Biological Sciences, EEB, MCB, or PNB with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Preference will be given to first generation students and members of groups that are underrepresented at UConn.

The Dorothy Rossini Allen '48 Scholarship Fund is for incoming or continuing CLAS undergraduates majoring in Spanish . This award may be renewable .

The Dr. Patrick E. Fontane Memorial Scholarship is for graduating pre-medical students who have been accepted for M. D. programs of accredited medical schools in the continental U.S. Applicants must have been undergraduates at UConn for at least two years. Priority will be given to students of UConn Waterbury and students who are from Waterbury, Watertown, or Oakville, Connecticut. Priority also given for students who have worked to finance their education.

The Dr. Victor Rizza Scholarship is for entering first-year students majoring in chemistry or biology. Applicants must be residents of the state of Connecticut. This award may be renewable for a maximum of four years. For renewal as junior or senior, the student must be on the prior Fall semester’s Dean’s List.

The Edward and Olga (Dsuban) Platt Scholarship is for CLAS undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need and academic achievement. Priority consideration to Honors students who participate in an approved Study Abroad (International Experiential Learning) program.

The Ellington Scholarship for the Humanities is for CLAS students majoring in the humanities. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and academic achievement.

The Fleur and Jerry Lawrence Endowed Scholarship in International Relations and Human Rights is for CLAS undergraduates studying international relations and/or human rights. Candidates must demonstrate academic achievement. This award may be renewable.

The Frank and Frances Nigro Scholarship is for CLAS undergraduates, preferably majoring in economics, who demonstrate financial need and academic achievement.

The Fred and Kathleen Otter Scholarship is awarded to academically outstanding CLAS graduate or undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. This award may be renewable.

The Gail Anne Shea Scholarship is for continuing junior or senior CLAS students who demonstrate academic achievement. Applicants must be majoring in Women's Gender, and Sexuality Studies or a related field of study focused on the existence, understanding, and eradication of institutionalized gender inequality/discrimination in higher education and/or the political arena.

The George C. Parker Memorial Scholarship is for incoming or continuing CLAS students who are citizens or legal residents of the U.S. and were either orphaned by age 14 or spent at least three years in foster care. Candidates must demonstrate financial need and academic achievement. This award may be renewable.

The Greenblatt Undergraduate Research Award is awarded to CLAS undergraduates who demonstrate high academic achievement and an interest in conducting academic research in the area of United States race relations, United States civil rights, or United States human rights.

The Hogan Family Scholarship is for incoming or continuing juniors majoring in history or English. Applicants must be residents of the state of Connecticut and demonstrate academic achievement and financial need. Preference will be given to graduates of Connecticut high schools. This award may be renewable for one additional year.

The Innovations in Paleobiology Award is available to CLAS graduate students and undergraduates majoring in geosciences or ecology & evolutionary biology. Preference will be given to students pursuing University-approved student research and education in paleontology.

The Jacqueline Brown-Dickstein Award is awarded to CLAS undergraduate students majoring or minoring in women’s studies. Applicants must be residents of the state of Connecticut and demonstrate financial need and academic achievement. This award may be renewable.

The John R. Jenswold and William Mahoney Memorial Scholarship Fund is awarded to incoming or continuing CLAS undergraduate or graduate students who demonstrate financial need and academic achievement . This award may be renewa ble .

The Karen Libertoff Harrington and Leo Harrington Scholarship is for continuing CLAS undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need and/or are meritorious. This award may be renewable.

The Lange Family Endowment Scholarship is awarded to CLAS undergraduates majoring in a physical, life, or environmental science, or math, who have a minimum 3.5 GPA, and demonstrate financial need. This award may be renewable.

The Linda Louro Petrella ’78 Scholarship is for graduate or undergraduate students in the Department of Literatures, Cultures, & Languages. Preference will be given to those who demonstrate financial need. This award may be renewable.

The Marbert '39 and Ronald '69 Margolin Scholarship Fund is for CLAS students with a preference for those who demonstrate financial need. This award may be renewable .

The Margaret Jane Chiang Environmental Studies Scholarship Fund support s incoming or continuing full-time students who demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to students demonstrating an interest in Environmental Studies majors, including Earth Science (Geoscience), Geography, Marine Sciences, and Ecology and Evolutionary Biology.

The Marjorie Robinson Eckels Scholarship supports undergraduates majoring in one of the social sciences who demonstrate academic achievement and financial need.

The Marsha Pomerantz Roth Scholarship is awarded to CLAS undergraduate students who are Connecticut residents with excellent past academic achievement and demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to residents of northwest Connecticut, including Litchfield County and its bordering towns. This award may be renewable.

The Michael and Brook Urban Scholarship is awarded to CLAS undergraduates majoring in Biological Sciences who demonstrate financial need. This award may be renewable.

The Myles Martel ’65 Scholarship Honoring the Leadership of President Emeritus Philip E. Austin is awarded to CLAS undergraduates who demonstrate leadership within a University student organization, campus activity, or similar organization. Students must also demonstrate academic achievement and financial need.

The Nancy and Steve Kotchko Scholarship Fund is awarded to incoming or continuing CLAS undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. This award m ay be ren ewable .

The Patrick M. Campion Scholarship is awarded to incoming or continuing CLAS undergraduates who demonstrate academic achievement and financial need. This award may be renewable.

The Paul J. Volpe ’67 Award is for CLAS undergraduates admitted to the University Honors Program. Applicants must be residents of the State of Connecticut, and preference will be given to those with financial need. This award may be renewable.

The Pineault Family Scholarship is for continuing CLAS undergraduate students enrolled at the Storrs campus . Applicants must be majoring in psychology and be residents of Connecticut. This award may be renewable .

The Posselt Family Opportunity Scholarship is awarded to CLAS undergraduates who have financial need. Preference will be given to sophomores, juniors, and seniors who have overcome obstacles (such as socioeconomic or educational disadvantage), are members of underrepresented groups at the University, have experience living or working in diverse environments, or have demonstrated interest in urban education or urban studies. This award may be renewable.

The Robert F. and Margaret Dodge Belden Scholarship is awarded to graduate or undergraduate students in CLAS who demonstrate academic achievement and a potential for future academic and professional accomplishments.

The Robert M. Ward '74 and Thomas D. Ritter, '77 Internship Award is for continuing undergraduates who have been accepted into the Connecticut General Assembly Inter n ship Program.

The Ron Roy Fund for Future Writers is for juniors and seniors majoring in English or Journalism. Candidates’ studies must focus on creative writing, literature, or children’s literature. Candidates must be permanent residents of Hartford, Tolland, or Middlesex county and graduates of a high school therewithin. Candidates must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. This award may be renewable.

The Rosen Family Scholarship for Science and Studies Abroad is awarded to continuing undergraduates who are majoring in a physical or life science and have participated or will participate in an approved study abroad (international experiential learning) program administered by the Office of Experiential Global Learning. Candidates must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Thereafter, preference will be given to chemistry, physics, or biological sciences students. This award may be renewable.

The Slavik Family Endowment awards scholarships to CLAS undergraduates who demonstrate academic achievement and have financial need.

The Susan Herbst and Douglas Hughes Family Scholarship in the Humanities is awarded to incoming CLAS undergraduates who intend to or are majoring in Africana studies, American studies, classics & ancient Mediterranean studies, English, French, German, history, human rights, Italian literary and cultural studies, journalism, Latin American studies, maritime studies, philosophy, Spanish, or women's, gender, and sexuality studies; or have an individualized major where the majority of courses are in the Humanities. Candidates must demonstrate academic achievement and financial need. This award may be renewable.

The Victor Schachter ’64 Rule of Law Award is for an undergraduate or graduate student in CLAS who accepts as part of their coursework in pursuit of a degree, a position or internship with a domestic or international organization or public agency whose purpose is to advance human rights programs and rule of law initiatives abroad, including in India and Africa. Students must also demonstrate an interest in rule of law issues.

The William and Lucretia Dewey Tanner Scholarship is awarded to CLAS undergraduates who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.

The Christine N. Witzel Award Fund is awarded to an academically promising undergraduate or graduate student enrolled full time in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and undertaking a research project related to women's health. Research topics of particular interest include, but are not limited to, specific health issues for women and gender differences in the experience of health issues. Candidates must acquire a letter of recommendation from either a faculty member affiliated with the Institute for Collaboration on Health, Intervention, and Policy (InCHIP) and/or a CLAS faculty member; the faculty member must have a research or teaching interest in women's health issues. Priority consideration will be given to students whose proposals show particular promise for future funding from a federal agency or private foundation. The CLAS Graduate Fellowship is for CLAS graduate students who demonstrate academic achievement and/or financial need.

The Covenant Insurance Company Summer Fellowship is for CLAS graduate students who demonstrate past academic achievement and the potential for future academic and professional accomplishments. Preference for candidates with financial need.

The Dean Ross MacKinnon Endowment for CLAS Graduate Fellows awards fellowships to graduate students who have financial need and demonstrate academic achievement.

The Dr. Dipak and Mrs. Rita Dey Doctoral Fellowship is for CLAS doctoral students who demonstrate financial need and academic achievement. Applicants must be pursuing a program of study in Statistics and/or Data Sciences. This award may be renewable.

The Dr. Ilpyong Kim Fellowship in East Asian Relations awards fellowships to CLAS graduate students enrolled in a Ph.D. program in the social sciences or humanities with priority consideration for political sciences students. Students must have completed their general Ph.D. exams. Students must be pursuing an approved dissertation that deals centrally with domestic or international relations of Korea, Japan, or China, or a combination thereof. This award may be renewable.

The Fred and Kathleen Otter Scholarship is awarded to academically outstanding CLAS graduate or undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. This award may be renewable.

The Getulio P. Carvalho Pre-doctoral Fellowship for U.S.-Brazilian Relations helps fund graduate students in CLAS who demonstrate academic achievement and an interest in Brazilian history, politics, diplomacy, trade, energy, natural resources, environment, or other areas of research related to U.S.-Brazilian relations. Priority consideration to candidates in political science. This award may be renewable.
